ABOUT WYMAN

WE ARE EXPERTS IN DEVELOPING TEENS

Wyman is a non-profit organization that takes the best teen development theory and makes it real and effective in a way that builds fully prepared teens. Wyman consistently provides a time-tested approach with four key components. Wyman creates interactive peer group experiences; delivers curriculum that is engaging, relevant and challenging; provides community service learning; and makes sure there is strong support from adults as positive role models. This inspires and enables 15,000 teens in 41 states across the country to lead successful lives and build strong communities.

WE ARE 111 YEARS OLD AND COUNTING

Founded 111 years ago by a group of prominent St. Louis citizens, Wyman’s original purpose was to provide children living in sweltering tenements with fresh air, good food and healthy outdoor activities. The founders believed that these surroundings and experiences would positively impact the character, values and outlook on life for these children. Throughout our history, we have served more than 600,000 St. Louis area children and youth through a variety of youth development programming.

What started out as a small camp in the woods, has grown into a nationally recognized, not-for-profit youth development organization. Wyman programs are now operating in 41 states, extending the advantageous results of its work to over 20,000 youth across the U.S. each year.

DIRECT SERVICES

Wyman programming enables communities across the country to foster environments where every teen is expected and supported to thrive in life, work and learning. Teens in Wyman programs are achieving grade level advancement on time, graduating high school, moving onto college and developing a sense of responsibility for themselves and their communities.

Our programs enable youth to become self-confident, compassionate and accountable; know how to lead, plan, problem solve and communicate; be successful in school and in life; and be well prepared to act as contributing students, family members, employees and citizens. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

When we talk about the best teen development theory, it means exactly that. The Wyman Institute for Teen Development is dedicated to aggregating, developing and advancing the best thinking both from inside and outside of our programs so that Wyman can continue to create results and truly break the cycle of poverty.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Wyman’s strength comes from its ability to expand its sphere of influence. We can most effectively do that by building a network of Teen Outreach Program providers. Our goal is simple: maximize the number of teens able to access the vital supports and opportunities that the Wyman Teen Outreach Program offers. By building a network of program providers, we can achieve our ultimate goal of breaking the cycle of poverty.
